The best places to land in Fortnite

Survival is key in Fortnite, and one small decision can make the difference between early elimination and a Victory Royale. Heading to the wrong area at the wrong time can lead to defeat if you aren’t careful. Likewise, knowing where to land can start your match off on the right foot, potentially leading to a win. This isn’t always the case, but the early portion of a match can be one of the factors that carry you to success. The thing is — you can’t just land in the same spots over and over again, as Fortnite evolves substantially from season to season. Even within the same season, it’s recommended to mix up your landing spots since the deadly storm always comes at you from a different location.

With that in mind, here is an updated list of the best places to land in Fortnite for chapter 3, season 2.

The best places to land in Fortnite

To help with deciding where to start out each match, we’ll detail the best places to land in Fortnite right now, at the time of chapter 3, season 2. This season features major changes to the beloved Fortnite map, building upon the major alterations introduced at the start of chapter 3. The new season is called Chapter 3 Resistance, focusing on a battle between the IO and the Seven. This time around, the map is littered with airships, along with plenty of new points of interest (POIs) and a brand new meta. The map itself has changed substantially, with callbacks to previous versions of Fortnite. With that in mind, you’ll want to keep your eyes peeled for the new locations during this season.

The points of interest change up the game considerably, including the best places to land. Picking where to land is difficult, as a number of factors come into play. When deciding on the best locations at this time, we took into account the amount of loot, how many players tend to land there, and its physical location and general popularity, along with the likelihood of decent spawns.

Whether you are someone who likes to fight all the time or just hide away until most of the players are already gone, we have a starting location for you so that you can start out on the right foot in each match.

Command Cavern

Landing at Command Cavern in Fortnite.

This is arguably the best landing spot in the game right now, at least in terms of offering valuable loot. The thing is — this will be a highly contested area, so you’ll need to be skilled to make it out alive. Start by landing on the top of the mountain by the satellite dish and grab any chests you see in the area. Then, once you’ve got your hands on a decent weapon and possibly some shields, interact with the scanning machine right by the satellite to highlight any nearby enemies. From here, head down the nearby steps and you’ll find a room with several slurp barrels, along with more loot. You can then make your way back up to the scanning machine and use the cannons to shoot yourself to the next area, which is highly useful. This means you never have to worry about where the zone is at the start since you can easily rotate to the next area with few worries about getting caught in the storm.

Gas station northeast of Rocky Reels

This recommended landing spot remains from the last season, as it’s still a great area, especially for safer drops. It’s perfect for newcomers or players who want to take it easy. The spot you should aim for is the gas station northeast of Rocky Reels. It’s best to land on the roof of the pump area since there’s typically a weapon there. Then, jump down and visit both the large trucks, where you’ll likely find a chest in each, and then make your way inside the gas station. Inside, you’ll find a slew of loot and chests, especially in the duct area of the building. Be thorough, and you’ll find food boxes with fruit and peppers, along with other healing items. There’s also metal in this area, which of course is worth grabbing. From here, head to the small building to the west and you’ll find Slurp Barrels, along with more loot. You can use a nearby car to rotate out of this spot and head to zone. The nice thing is that it’s in the center of the map, so you shouldn’t have trouble making it to the next safe spot.

Cabin at Camp Cuddle

This drop spot will be slightly more contested than the previous recommendation, but it’s usually not too busy. Start by landing at the large cabin on the south side of Camp Cuddle. From here, loot as much as you can and you’ll find around seven chests in the building, with a vehicle nearby for your rotation (which you’ll likely need since this spot is on the far west side of the island). You should also gather as many resources as possible such as wood and metal, which are both abundant here. Make sure you visit the lake to the east to fish as long as it’s safe. This is a great area for players looking for a little action without having to worry about landing beside a boatload of enemies.

Sunflower Saplings

Much like the previous recommendation, Sunflower Saplings is an ideal drop spot for those looking for some action without being overwhelmed. This area actually has more opportunities for loot than the cabin at Camp Cuddle, featuring 11 chests, a safe, and coolers, and it’s closer to the center. The main thing to note about this spot is that you might run into more players if you hang out here for a while, as you’ll likely encounter opponents coming from The Daily Bugle. So, if you’re trying to play it safe, we recommend looting quickly before leaving this spot. Otherwise, you can loot and then visit The Daily Bugle Directly. Or use a nearby car to rotate away from this area depending on where the zone ends up.

Vault northwest of Logjam Lumberyard

Once again, this is another drop from last season. This is one of the very best drop spots in terms of the loot you can get, but it requires a teammate to open the vault in this location. Start by looting as much as you can in and around the main building, and then go downstairs with a teammate to open the vault. Inside, you’ll find IO chests containing valuable loot such as weapons and shields. You can then use the nearby vehicle to get inside the zone. Keep in mind, this is a relatively safe area to land at and provides useful gear, though you must have a teammate with you to access it.

Tilted Towers

Tilted Towers has always been a great landing spot, though you’re likely to encounter several enemies if you land there. The beauty of this area is that it’s absolutely stacked with loot, including safes, slurp barrels, and powerful weapons to help you outlast the competition. You can also start by landing at the airship above to get stocked up on loot before heading down to the main area of Titled Towers — just be prepared to encounter other enemies here. Depending on your playstyle, you might want to play cautiously in this area, allowing your foes to run by before third-partying them as they fight another opponent. Nonetheless, you’ll be stacked on gear after you leave this area, but surviving is trickier than you might expect.

Random secret boat spawn (Pawntoon)

Pawntoon in Fortnite.

The last drop spot we’d like to cover is vastly different from the rest. This is because it’s a boat that spawns at random locations each match. When you first jump from the Battle Bus, look around and see if you can see the boat on the outskirts of the map. Sometimes it’s hard to spot, and other times, you’ll see it immediately. If it’s too far out of the way, it might be best to visit a different location, but if you can make it to the boat unscathed, you’ll be in good shape for the rest of the match. While here, make sure you loot all the chests, including the Seven Chests, which give you even better loot. The boat has plenty of metal and wood, along with Slurp Barrels. Pretty much everything you’ll need can be found here. The main thing to be aware of is that you shouldn’t stay here too long, as the storm could catch you off guard. Since the boat spawns in random locations, it’s sometimes hard to plan a route back to the center of zone, so just take note of where you are and hope there’s a vehicle nearby.
